On Wednesday night, Portugal, who were already through to the round of 16 as Group F winners took on Georgia at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

In the second half, Georges Mikautadze converted a penalty in the 57th minute to make it 2-0.

Eventually, Georgia held on for a famous victory which will see them take on Spain in the last 16 of Euro 2024.

After the match, footage of Ronaldo walking off the pitch was posted on social media.

In the video, a fan appeared to jump in the direction of the Portuguese superstar as he walked towards the tunnel.

During the match, Ronaldo was substituted after 66 minutes when he was replaced by Goncalo Ramos.

The 39-year-old was visibly frustrated as he kicked out at the turf in anger.

Speaking after the match, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez said: “It’s a defeat. We started with low intensity, we conceded early and that’s what Georgia needed.

“We weren’t clear-headed enough with the last pass and in front of goal, and their goalkeeper had an amazing performance. We tried to score but couldn’t, and that made Georgia believe all the more. They deserved to win.”

He added: “We tried to score and at times we were unlucky. I don’t think it was tactics or players today, I think it was about the power and the intensity that Georgia showed.

“We need to play at a high pace, high intensity. Georgia were playing to be part of history and we didn’t match them. They scored early then defended deep and hit us on the break.”

Portugal will take on Slovenia in the round of 16, with the winner facing either France or Belgium in the quarter-final.
