Cristiano Ronaldo breaks one more incredible record but loses another without even kicking a ball at Euro 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo breaks one more incredible record but loses another without even kicking a ball at Euro 2024

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken one record without even kicking a ball at Euro 2024.

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken one record without even kicking a ball for Portugal at Euro 2024 - but has lost another.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will lead the line for Portugal in their Group F opener against 1996 finalists Czechia at Leipzig's Red Bull Arena.

And Ronaldo’s appearance in the competition means he will become the first player to appear in six European Championships, having featured in every edition of the tournament since playing at a home Euros in 2004.

Naturally, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star has not only featured in five previous Euros but has also scored in each of them.

Moreover, at 39, Ronaldo would have also become the oldest outfield player to feature in a European Championships this evening, but his teammate Pepe, 41, is also making an appearance.

Finally, should Ronaldo score in the encounter, he will also become the tournament's oldest-ever scorer - potentially breaking a second record in one evening.

Asked about Ronaldo skipper Portugal at Euro 2024 at the age of 39, Manchester City defender Dias said: "It represents inspiration, everything and anything. It represents what you can dream and achieve.

"It's a pleasure to have him with us. Him being with us at this moment in his career represents that he wants to be here with us, he will be here until the end. He's our captain."

Ronaldo, who now plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, scored 10 goals as Portugal produced a 100 per cent record during qualifying for Euro 2024.

He also scored twice in Portugal’s 3-0 friendly win over the Republic of Ireland before this summer's tournament.

"Nobody gets in it by just having a name," Roberto Martinez said.

"He can make the final move, really stretch defences and over the years he has changed the way he plays.

"He is in the national team on merit and probably the numbers are there to back it up."

Ronaldo has, however, lost one record at Euro 2024 - that of the youngest scorer to score on their European Championship debut.

Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler scored a stunning goal for Turkey against Georgia earlier on Tuesday. Aged 19 years and 114 days, he breaks Ronaldo's long-standing record of 19 years and 128 days that had stood for 20 years.
