Mauricio Pochettino completely disagrees with Conor Gallagher's verdict on Chelsea defeat vs Arsenal

Chelsea lost 5-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino disagreed with Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher's verdict on the side's 5-0 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Blues suffered a heavy defeat at the Emirates Stadium to an Arsenal side who were clinical in the second half, although less so during the first 45 minutes.

Kai Havertz scored two goals, while defender Ben White also netted an unlikely brace from right-back in the second half.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for the Gunners inside five minutes, and while Chelsea had opportunities through Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez, Arsenal's second goal effectively ended the contest.

The result takes Mikel Arteta's three points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of second-placed Liverpool, and they have a vastly superior goal difference over them and third-placed Manchester City, who are four points behind with two games in hand.

It was a nightmare evening for Chelsea, who have now conceded 57 goals this season - more than in any other Premier League campaign.

After the game, Blues skipper Gallagher said the defeat wasn't for a lack of effort: "We definitely are putting the effort in. I know how much it means to all the boys."

Pochettino, though, had a different outlook on proceedings - and blasted his squad for their performance.

He told reporters: "We conceded two goals and, in this moment, the team gave up. We were not in the game.

"You can lose a game, and Arsenal are fighting for the Premier League, but the way we competed three days ago and [compared to] today, there is no excuse.

"Today, you can use any words to describe our performance. Our standards are not sustained for the bad days.

"When we have bad days, we are so bad. When we are good, we are capable of everything."
