Chelsea player's future is already 'uncertain' one day after Enzo Maresca's arrival at the club

Chelsea player's future is already 'uncertain' one day after Enzo Maresca's arrival at the club

Enzo Maresca faces a big decision as the new Chelsea manager

Enzo Maresca has arrived at Chelsea and one player is reportedly facing an uncertain future at the club.

The former Leicester City boss replaced Mauricio Pochettino after guiding the Foxes back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Maresca - who worked as one of the assistant managers to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City - has already seen his squad bolstered by new additions during the summer transfer window.

Tosin Adarabioyo arrived on a free transfer from Fulham, Marc Guiu signed from Barcelona and Omari Kellyman swapped Villa Park for Stamford Bridge. Maresca was also reunited with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall after Chelsea agreed a deal worth £30m with Leicester.

With plenty of new faces arriving, Chelsea still need to offload players and various players have been linked with a departure.

Just one day after Maresca’s official arrival at the club, The Telegraph report left-back Ben Chilwell is one player who faces an uncertain future.

The former Leicester man signed a new contract in April 2023 and was later named the club’s vice-captain, leading the side out in the 2024 EFL Cup final defeat to Liverpool

Chilwell was snubbed by Gareth Southgate for England’s Euro 2024 squad after featuring just once in Chelsea’s last ten Premier League games. He was spotted in training early as he looks to secure his future at Stamford Bridge.

England international Conor Gallagher is another whose situation is unclear with rivals Tottenham interested in signing him even after their big-money move for Leeds star Archie Gray.

With England currently struggling without a natural left-back, Wayne Rooney admitted he was shocked that Chilwell wasn’t called up for this summer’s tournament.

He told the BBC broadcast: “I was very surprised and really shocked that Ben Chilwell didn’t get picked – just for the balance of having a left-footed player there.

“He plays at Chelsea and has played well for England in the past.

“He’s a good left-back – he’s been in tournaments as well – so I was really surprised he wasn’t selected.”
