Jamie Carragher explains how Kate Scott 'put him in his place' after infamous joke about husband Malik

Carragher made the infamous comment last season - before receiving significant backlash online.

Jamie Carragher has recalled how Kate Scott (nee Abdo) 'put him in his place' after his infamous joke about her now-husband Malik Scott.

The Liverpool icon received criticism on social media after a joke about the pair following a Champions League match on CBS Sports last season.

Scott addressed the matter during her introduction for the following night's show, telling viewers: "Does he [Carragher] go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes he does. But all of us have that annoying family member that we all love and accept."

Her husband revealed that Carragher personally apologised to him over the comment, and said he had 'no ill feelings' towards the former Reds centre-back.

The former trainer of Deontay Wilder also said he met the CBS trio of Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards, and added that he had the 'utmost respect' for all three of them.

The matter had not been referenced on CBS since except in subtle terms, with Carragher mentioning on Tuesday's edition that both he and Richards had now nearly been sacked from the programme.

Malik, meanwhile, received congratulatory messages from Henry, Richards and Carragher before his wedding to Kate last month.

But now, speaking to The Ringer, Carragher has opened up on Kate's private reaction to the comment.

He said: "We never ignore the elephants in the room. I was a little child.

"I was just getting a little smack and getting put back in place, and rightly so."

Kate told the same publication: "I think the reason the reason that we we function well is because we needle each other. That's like a sports team, right?

"I feel like those inappropriate conversations should be had in the locker room, and kept in the locker room. You deal with them internally, and then you move on."
