BBC accidentally show rarely-seen image during Match of the Day which exposes exactly how live TV coverage works

It was shown during Saturday's broadcast of Match of the Day.

Eagle-eyed fans watching BBC's coverage of Saturday's Match of the Day may have spotted a rarely-seen image during the FA Cup highlights.

Last night's Match of the Day was an FA Cup special as Kelly Somers hosted the show alongside pundits Leon Osman and Dion Dublin.

They reviewed Liverpool's comfortable victory over Accrington Stanley, Man City's thrashing of Salford and Plymouth Argyle's shock win over Brentford, among other matches.

But the broadcast was abruptly cut off as a rarely-seen image was shown to viewers.

The image that flashed across the screen was titled 'Graphics Trail v2', with the day showing as January 11, 2025.

It isn't normally seen but darts viewers witnessed something similar during Luke Littler's semi-final clash against Stephen Bunting at the 2025 World Darts Championship.

BBC accidentally showing the image didn't go unnoticed among Match of the Day viewers.

One X user wrote: "Did we miss anything important there? FA Cup highlights temporary getting cut off?"

A second added: "Someone at #MOTD will be called in for a meeting on Monday for that mistake...."

Liverpool and Man City, meanwhile, weren't the only Premier League winners in the third round as Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Brighton, Bournemouth, Wolves and Leicester City all booked their spot in the fourth round of the competition.

Forest beat Luton Town, Chelsea thrashed Morecambe 5-0, Brighton saw off Norwich City, Bournemouth easily beat West Brom, Wolves narrowly defeated Bristol City and Leicester City destroyed Queens Park Rangers.

The Emirates showdown between Arsenal and Manchester United is the pick of Sunday's FA Cup games.

Other cup ties include Newcastle United vs. Bromley and Tamworth vs. Tottenham.

Crystal Palace also host Stockport Country while Ipswich Town entertain Bristol Rovers.
