However, the surprise bid has been swiftly rejected by Villa, although an improved attempt from Arsenal is expected ahead of Monday's deadline.
In addition to those reports, Villa are said to be unhappy with the timing of the bid as they prepare to face Celtic in a crucial Champions League clash at Villa Park on Wednesday.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who suggests a proposal of around £60 million has been rejected by the Premier League side as they continue talks with Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr over a deal for Jhon Duran.
Villa, meanwhile, are confident of retaining Watkins given his current contractual situation.
As mentioned earlier, the striker is a big Arsenal supporter. Back in his Brentford days, Watkins opened up on his admiration for the North London club.
"That's the dream to play for Arsenal one day," he said. "But it's a long shot. It's only because my family support them and stuff like that. But that's a long-term [goal]."
