Fans left in total disbelief after hearing 'strange' thing Mikel Arteta asked Riccardo Calafiori about his family

Riccardo Calafiori joined Arsenal in the summer of 2024.

Fans have been reacting on social media after finding out what Mikel Arteta asked Riccardo Calafiori about his family.

During the summer of 2024, the Gunners brought in Italian defender Calafiori from Serie A side Bologna in a deal worth a reported fee of £42 million.

Since then, the 22-year-old has made 26 appearances across all competitions for Arsenal, scoring three goals and assisting two.

Speaking recently about his move to North London, Calafiori revealed he was immediately impressed with Arteta.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, he said to Undici: "I was immediately impressed by how much he cared about getting to know me. One day on the phone he sent me some photos of my family and asked me to say what each member of the family meant to me.

"Nothing like this had ever happened to me before, I’m not saying that he convinced me with this alone but it certainly represented an important moment."

Reacting on social media, one fan said: "Strange."

Another joked: "If I’m paying someone over £3M a year, I’d want to know about their family from their past life too."

A third fan added: "Nah this is weird."

Someone else wrote: "My gaffer is a strange one but that's why he's my gaffer."

A fifth commented: "Arteta will do everything but win a trophy."

Another fan said: "I’ll be honest if my boss did that to me I’d quit."

When asked about the difference between the Premier League and Serie A, Calafiori added: "The teams all play the same way, at two thousand intensity, it’s as if they were playing in a bubble."

Currently, Calafiori is away on international duty with Italy as they prepare to take on Germany in the Nations League quarter final.

The first leg will take place on Thursday night at San Siro before the two teams meet again at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday.
