Mikel Arteta reveals the Arsenal player who insisted on playing in Man City draw despite having an injury

Mikel Arteta reveals the Arsenal player who insisted on playing in Man City draw despite having an injury

An Arsenal player played through the pain barrier against Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta says one of his Arsenal stars played through an injury against Manchester City in a stunning revelation.

Arsenal grabbed a point against Man City following their 2-2 draw at the Etihad on Sunday.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring to match a Cristiano Ronaldo record.

Riccardo Calafiori scored his first goal for Arsenal to draw level before Gabriel headed home to put his side in the lead.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men before the break when Leandro Trossard was dismissed for two yellow cards.

John Stones levelled in stoppage time as the Gunners were denied all three points in what would have been a huge victory.

After the game, Arteta revealed that Ben White played the second-half of the Premier League fixture despite having an injury.

White started the match on the bench, with Jurrien Timber slotting in at right-back, having played left-back against Tottenham and Atalanta in the Champions League.

But the 26-year-old was introduced at the break as he replaced Bukayo Saka.

On White, Arteta said: "He would run through a brick wall for you."

And speaking before the fixture, he explained his thinking behind employing Calafiori and Timber at left-back and right-back respectively.

"It was a little bit forced, but we are ok," he said. "We've done it with different players, but we have full belief in the players we have. It gives us something different."

Arsenal have recorded 11 points from their opening five league games.

On their draw against Man City, Arteta said: "We were more efficient and went 2-1 up and then there were two incidents, very similar, one in particular, but had a very different outcome which then forces you to have a game which nobody wants to watch.

"I think it's very clear. Very obvious. Hopefully what 100 per cent of what people thinks. It's not my job to come here and judge what happened. My job is to survive in the most difficult environment you can throw in football for 55 minutes. And try to get things done to survive. That's my job, the rest is not my job."
