Antonio Rudiger 'facing lengthy ban' following Copa del Rey as new angle of headloss emerges

Real Madrid were beaten by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final.

Antonio Rudiger could reportedly face a lengthy ban following his red card during Real Madrid's defeat by Barcelona.

On Saturday night, the Copa del Rey final between fierce rivals Madrid and Barcelona took place at the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville.

Barcelona came away 3-2 winners after extra time, with the likes of Pedri, Ferran Torres and Jules Kounde on the scoresheet. Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni scored for Carlo Ancelotti's men.

With Los Blancos chasing the match in the closing stages, Mbappe was adjudged to have fouled Eric Garcia by putting his hand on the Barcelona defender's face, which angered the Madrid bench.

Rudiger, who was taken off in the 111th minute, was shown a red card for throwing an object in the direction of the referee, Ricardo De Burgos.

Jude Bellingham was also shown a red card in the aftermath of the clash.

As reported by Football 365, De Burgos 'reports to the Spanish Football Federation that Bellingham had been sent off for his “agressive attitude” and he also confirmed that Rudiger had thrown something towards him'.

Since then, new footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, which appeared to show Rudiger being held back by Madrid staff after reportedly throwing bags of ice towards the official.

As a result, the German could be set for a lengthy ban.

According to Madrid Xtra on social media, La Cadena Ser claimed that Rudiger could be banned for 4-12 matches.

Meanwhile, host of Carrusel Deportivo, Dani Garrido stated that Rudiger could be set for a 'historic ban'.

He said: "I’m deeply saddened by Vinicius and Rudiger’s reaction. Rudiger’s attitude, especially, was deplorable.

"Lucas may have insulted, Vinicius came off like a madman, but what Rudiger did is unforgivable, and he’s going to get a historic ban."

Reflecting on the match, Madrid boss Ancelotti said: "Overall, I felt we had the game under control, but they were able to play balls in behind us and that’s when things got complicated, particularly for their second goal.

"We have to keep fighting because we gave everything, we competed very well, and there’s nothing to complain about. We were closer to winning than our opponents were."
