Fans think they know why Erling Haaland didn't score against Leeds United

Erling Haaland fired blank against Leeds United.

Erling Haaland DIDN'T score in Manchester City's win over Leeds United and fans think they know why.

Ilkay Gundogan bagged a superb first-half brace as Man City ran out 2-1 winners at the Etihad on Saturday.

After breaking the Premier League goal-scoring record against West Ham United in midweek, Haaland failed to get on the score-sheet against Sam Allardyce's side.

That's despite having a handful of clear-cut chances. He fluffed his lines in the first-half as he even missed the ball when he was through on goal.

The 22-year-old was unable to find the back of the net in the second-half. He was denied by the post and the crossbar as he couldn't beat Joel Robles in net.

He also gave up a penalty, which Gundogan subsequently missed, angering Pep Guardiola on the touchline.

But Man City fans aren't worried as they believe he's saving his goals for their next game, which is a crunch Champions League showdown against Real Madrid.

The Blues travel to Spain on Tuesday to face the competition holders, with people online convinced he's saving himself for the European meeting at the Bernabeu.

One Twitter user wrote: "He's saving everything for Madrid dw."

A second tweeted: "Erling Haaland saving the goals for Real Madrid on Tuesday. Gotta respect that."

A third added: "Haaland saving some of his goals for the match against Real Madrid."

A fourth said: "He's saving up his xG for Madrid. No worries."

Another commented: "Madrid watching this knowing Haaland is coming at them angry."

After his goalless afternoon, Haaland remains on 51 goals for the season, including 35 league goals - a new record in England's top flight.

He has 12 goals in this season's Champions League as he'll look to improve his tally when his side come up against the La Liga giants.
