Luke Shaw finally reveals whether he'll be fit enough to play for England at Euro 2024 after 127 days out

Luke Shaw finally reveals whether he'll be fit enough to play for England at Euro 2024 after 127 days out

Shaw hasn't played since February but was picked in England's Euro 2024 squad.

Luke Shaw has revealed his current fitness levels and whether he will be fit enough to play any part for England at Euro 2024.

The Manchester United left-back has been suffering from a hamstring injury since February, which he had not recovered from by the time Gareth Southgate named his final 26-man England squad for Euro 2024.

But the Three Lions boss decided to include Shaw in the hope that he would be fit to play a role in the tournament, which he described as a 'gamble'.

Shaw is England's only natural left-back in the squad. Kieran Trippier has moved from right-back to cover for him, while Liverpool's Joe Gomez can also play there. Kyle Walker ended the Slovenia clash at left-back.

Before the tournament, Southgate said that the 28-year-old was on track to play in the group stage, but the United defender has continued to work on a personalised individual training programme.

It was even reported that England were planning to send Shaw home with the hope that he could return later in the tournament, but those reports appear to have been premature.

Now, he has revealed when he expects to be fit - and it's positive news for Three Lions fans.

The Daily Mirror have reported that Shaw says he is targeting 'the next game' - England's last 16 clash against Slovakia - to make a return to action.

That fixture takes place on Sunday evening in Gelsenkirchen. The winner of that match will face either Switzerland or Italy in the quarter-finals.

Shaw's announcement will come as a huge boost to England, with Trippier having to play through a calf problem throughout the tournament.

He was substituted with 10 minutes to play against Slovenia, with The Telegraph reporting that the calf issue has affected him during Euro 2024.

The Newcastle right-back also suffered with cramp against Serbia which is believed to be related to the same issue, although he was able to run it off.
