Euro 2024 is underway and before England kick off Southgate’s future as manager has been decided, according to reports.
The first match of the 2024 European Championships kicked off last night, as hosts Germany dispatched Scotland in a dominant 5-1 victory.
England head into the tournament as favourites to lift the trophy, hoping to avenge their penalty shootout loss to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.

The Three Lions start their campaign on Sunday night as they travel to Arena AufSchalke, home of second-tier German side Schalke, to face Serbia.
But before England kick off this weekend, the FA have reportedly made a decision regarding Gareth Southgate’s future as manager.
Many fans have speculated that Southgate would leave after his current contract expires following this year’s Euros

However, reports from The Mirror suggest that the FA are set to offer Southgate a new contract regardless of how England perform at the tournament.
In his eight years as manager, Southgate has taken England to a semi-final in the Russia 2018 World Cup, a quarter final at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and the final of the previous Euros.
And the FA hope that the England manager will extend his time with the Three Lions and lead them into the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 53-year-old has suggested that he could leave his post should England fail to win Euro 2024, but it appears the decision is now entirely in his own hands.

Speaking to German newspaper BILD, Southgate said: “If we don't win, I probably won't be here anymore. So maybe it is the last chance.
“I think around half the national coaches leave after a tournament – that's the nature of international football. I've been here almost eight years now and we've come close.
“You can't constantly put yourself in front of the public and say, ‘A little more please’ as at some point people lose faith. If we want to be a great team and I want to be a top coach, you must deliver in big moments.”

Southgate was reportedly under consideration to replace Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag this summer, in what would be his first time managing a club since he left Middlesbrough in 2009.
But with Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly sticking with the Dutchman, who they are set to offer a new contract, it is unlikely that Southgate will manage Manchester United in the near future.
