Fans spot Cole Palmer and Gareth Southgate’s awkward exchange at full-time after England draw

Fans spot Cole Palmer and Gareth Southgate’s awkward exchange at full-time after England draw

Cole Palmer was an unused substitute for the second consecutive England game at Euro 2024.

Fans have spotted Cole Palmer and Gareth Southgate's awkward interaction after England's disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark.

Despite going 1-0 up in the 18th minute through Harry Kane, England passed up the chance to qualify as group winners with a game to spare after Morten Hjulmand's fine first-half equaliser.

They were incredibly sloppy, particularly in the second half and had to settle for the point which still keeps them at the top of Group C.

Southgate did make four changes in the second half, starting with hooking Trent Alexander-Arnold for Conor Gallagher after 53 minutes.

Ollie Watkins, Jarrod Bowen and Eberechi Eze all entered the fray in a triple substitution.

But again, for the second game running Palmer was an unused substitute.

That's despite him having 42 goal contributions for Chelsea last season, putting him fifth in the list from Europe's top five leagues.

Palmer was emotionless on the bench as he watched on and after the game there was an exchange between he and Southgate.

Southgate embraced a number of players and did shake hands with Palmer, giving him a pat on the beck.

However the interaction was very brief and Palmer didn't appear to give much eye contact.

Naturally, it garnered plenty of reaction online.

One wrote: "Cole barely looking him in the eye so true."

A second commented: "Southgate has no business looking anyone in the eye after this disaster class."

A third reacted: "Make stupid decisions and then come to shake you."

Another added: "Surprised Southgate even knew he was there!"

Palmer scored his first England goal from the penalty spot in the friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and then started the 1-0 loss to Iceland.

England return to action with a final Group C against Slovenia, with plenty of clamour for Palmer to get the nod.
