A video of Fernando Torres’ Liverpool debut has resurfaced after Darwin Nunez made a slow start to his Reds career.
During the games against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, Nunez produced two error filled performances and missed big chances to open his Liverpool account.
Rivals fans were quickly on Nunez’s case as they relished the perfect opportunity to make fun of Liverpool’s big money signing. The Uruguayan has already been branded as a ‘flop’ and a ‘waste of money’.

In a bid to hit back at their rivals, one Liverpool fan decided to dig deep into the archives to find clips of Torres on his Liverpool debut.
The footage showed Torres losing possession when running with the ball at his feet, whilst his passes and flicks were not as accurate as many may have expected. The Spaniard also missed a sitter after a shot from Dirk Kuyt was parried right into his path by the opposition goalkeeper.
Despite his less than promising debut, Torres went on to be a massive hit on the red side of Merseyside, he went on to score 81 goals in 142 appearances for the Anfield club as he established himself as one of the best strikers in world football.

However, the tweet backfired big time as rival fans found it even more amusing that the Liverpool fan has gone to such length to back Nunez after two pre season matches. Whilst some commented on the fact that Torres’ debut was still much better than what Nunez managed to produce.
One fan said: “This is about 5x better than Nunez debut ngl.”
Another said: “It ain’t that deep why are they so insecure about Nunez.”

And a third added: “Reaching the stage of denial after 2 pre season games is wild.”
It is safe to say Liverpool fans are slightly annoyed by the criticism that has been directed at their new front man.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp however, is not worried at all.

He told reporters: “It’s kind of a game or a joke for some people to pick out some situations where a player’s not doing well. That’s only a game from [fans of] other clubs, which is normal.”
“Our fans probably do [the same] with signings of Manchester United. We cannot take this seriously.”
Klopp rarely gets transfers wrong and for the club to pay such a large amount of money for Nunez, they know that the 23-year-old has the potential to be a success at Anfield.

The German has turned good players into world class players during his time with the club and Liverpool fans will be hoping Klopp can work his magic once again and turn Nunez into a goal scoring machine.
Will Nunez be a hit at Liverpool? Only time will tell.
