Chris Sutton, a player who bagged 154 goals in a glittering career and won the Premier League in the process, has now weighed in on the Haaland-Núñez rivalry. He has gone on to state that “I think Haaland is the real deal. I think Núñez is good. But Haaland, he is unplayable.”.
Since Erling Haaland’s arrival to Borussia Dortmund in 2020, he has gone on to score 86 goals from 89 appearances. A tally on par with the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Of course, a goal-scoring run like this did not go unnoticed, with the 21 year-old becoming one of the hottest prospects in Europe, and subsequently earning a move to Manchester City in the process.

A player who’s had a similar run to that of Haaland has been 22 year-old Darwin Núñez, with the Benfica number 9 netting 34 times from 41 appearances, including 6 times from 10 games in the Champions League which earned himself a €100m move to Liverpool.
Going into the 2022/23 season, fans across the globe will be watching Liverpoool and Manchester City, with the Haaland-Núñez rivalry being of particular interest.
Chris Sutton has been one of the first to speak out on the contention, stating that Haaland is just that slight level above Núñez.
However, the former player-turned-pundit also said that Núñez is a “good centre-forward and good in the air. Liverpool may have lacked a central striker that’s good in the air. Finishes off well with both feet. Likes to come off that left-hand side. I think they have signed a really good player.”

Whoever does end up scoring more goals next season, it will surely be a tight battle, with all eyes set to be on the pair of centre-forwards for years to come.
