Staff member gives detailed insight into Harry Kane's stay at luxury Mandarin Oriental hotel in Munich

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane certainly enjoyed his stay at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Munich.

A member of staff at the luxury Mandarin Oriental hotel in Munich has provided a detailed insight into Harry Kane's four-month stay.

Dominik G. Rainer, the hotel manager at Mandarin Oriental, has described the England international as "one of the most down-to-earth guests we've ever had" in a recent interview.

Kane moved to Germany's third largest city in August after completing his much-anticipated £100 million move from Spurs to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

He recently moved into a family home with his wife Kate and their four children – a base located just under 10 miles from Bayern's Sabener Strasse training ground.

But for the first months of his stay, he was welcomed with open arms by the staff at Mandarin Oriental.

Earlier this month, he thanked those who looked after him and his family. "A massive thank you to the hotel staff who have made me feel at home since moving to Munich. It’s been a huge part of being able to settle in so well," he wrote.

"@esmuellert [Thomas Muller] was worried my room was getting too small so time to check out and into a place of my own with my family."

Since moving out, hotel manager Dominik G. Rainer has opened up about his stay in a chat with German publication Suddeutsche Zeitung.

“He was definitely one of the most popular regular guests we've ever had with us,” he said. “At the end he greeted each colleague with a handshake and their name.

“He was one of the most down-to-earth guests we've ever had. We only did something special for the children when they were there. We set up tipis in the room for them to play in, for example.

“They were also allowed exclusive use of the pool on the roof terrace. But Harry hasn't asked for any extravagant wishes for himself.

“When we prepared a large Allianz Arena made of chocolate for him when he arrived, it went back to the patisserie untouched. That was probably too much sugar for him.”

It was initially reported that Kane's stay would cost around 10,000 euros per night, but Rainer played down those figures and quoted a so-called "discounted" rate.

“Harry stayed in one of our large suites, the Bavaria Suite, which is around 120 square metres. So there was room for all the hat-trick balls that he brought home after the games," he added.

“His wife Kate gave birth to their fourth child in England and then regularly came to Munich to visit with the children. But Harry's brother Charlie and his parents were also there, the family came and went.

“Regarding the price, you should know that Harry received a volume discount as a long-term guest, so he paid less than 4000 euros per night. About the artwork: There were pictures of the Bavarian mountains in Harry's room! Hopefully he felt at home there.”

Reiner also revealed that Kane eat sushi almost every night during his four-month stay.

“The Kanes have not hidden away, on the contrary,” he said. “They were very open, very approachable.

“For example, we offered afternoon tea in the lobby with scones and clotted cream, which we had his parents test to see whether they met English requirements.

“They were very satisfied. Our patisserie chef read English recipes especially for the Kanes in order to get the scones fluffy.”
