The 30-year-old has enjoyed an excellent campaign under Mikel Arteta, producing more goals and assists than in the last two seasons combined.
His Arsenal career looked to be over after a public fall-out with fans in 2019. However, the Switzerland international has experienced quite the redemption story, and is now a permanent fixture within the Gunners' midfield.

The former Borussia Mönchengladbach player has now been rumoured with a return to Germany, as part of a swap deal for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

Arteta is thought to want to strengthen his options out wide this summer, paying particular attention to his left-hand flank to help ease the burden on Bukayo Saka.

23-year-old French winger Diaby is allegedly a key target for the Gunners boss, having scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions this season.
While Xhaka could be used as a bargaining tool in any potential deal, with Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso 'desperate' to sign the midfielder, claim The Mirror.
Arteta's close friendship with Alonso could play a key role in negotiations, as the Bundesliga side consider a 'package deal' involving Diaby.
