Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda’s head-to-head record is fascinating – but it may not be what you’d expect.
Lawson, 23, and Tsunoda, 24, currently drive for Red Bull and Racing Bulls, respectively, but the younger of the pair has had a torrid start to life at his new team after he replaced Sergio Perez ahead of the 2025 campaign.
In race one of the calendar Lawson did not finish the race and his fortunes did not particularly improve at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday when the 23-year-old finished 12th.

His future at Red Bull has already been called into question, with team principal Christian Horner admitting that Lawson had a “tough weekend” in Shanghai.
"I think Liam's had a tough couple of races, a tough weekend here,” Horner said when speaking to Sky Sports F1.
“We elected to take him off the grid out of Parc Ferme to do a significant set-up change and so we've managed to get 56 laps of reasonable data from that. Obviously, we'll take that away, we'll have a good look at it, and, as a group, we'll do our best to support him.

"Liam is obviously confidence-wise struggling with the car at the moment, which is why we made some significant changes today to see if we could find a more confidence-inspiring set-up for him."
He also admitted that Lawson has “got potential” which he isn’t “realising” at the moment.
It was even reported that Lawson could be replaced by Tsunoda at the Japanese Grand Prix on April 6, with the Racing Bulls driver replying “Yeah, why not” when asked if he’d step up to the challenge if the opportunity presented itself.

With a swap said to be on the cards, what does the pair’s head-to-head record look like?
Well, according to FOX, Lawson’s record against Tsunoda is hardly impressive. The New Zealander beat the Japanese in the Euroformula Open championship in 2019, coming second while Tsunoda finished fourth.
But the 24-year-old beat Lawson in the F3 championship that year – earning promotion to F2 for the 2020 campaign.
In 2020, Lawson and Tsunoda raced again with the Kiwi defeating his rival in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand.

However, it was the elder of the pair who earned promotion to F1 in 2021, while Lawson was a reserve at VCARB – Racing Bulls. The pair had 11 races together at the manufacturer, with Tsunoda outscoring Lawson. While their record in qualifying was 10-1 in the Japanese's favour.
