In an uninspiring game at the Signal Iduna-Park, Manchester City drew 0-0 with German side Borussia Dortmund to secure top spot in Group G.
Pep Guardiola’s side started slowly, with the hosts dominating the early affairs but neither side managed to create any clear-cut opportunities.
Despite creating little in the first-half, City were awarded a second-half penalty after former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can brought down Riyad Mahrez inside the area.
Advert
The Algerian’s strike was saved - a second successive penalty miss in the UEFA Champions League from Mahrez.
As the Blues extended their unbeaten run in Europe, here’s how we rated City’s efforts against Borussia Dortmund!
Starting XI
Stefan Ortega - 7.5
Advert
In his first appearance for the Blues, he was impressive.
The German was both solid with his hands and feet, smothering a couple of early Dortmund efforts.
John Stones - 7
Back in the starting lineup for the first time in five weeks, the Englishmen didn’t put a foot wrong.
Advert
Stones started the first-half at right-back but was shifted back into the centre for the second-half, sometimes transitioning into midfield alongside Rodri.
Ruben Dias - 7.5 (MOTM)
Another solid defensive performance for City’s Portuguese centre-half. Dias didn’t have a lot to do, as a result of Dortmund’s defensive style, but was dependable when called upon.
Nathan Ake - 7
Advert
Similar to Dias, Ake didn’t have much defending to do but when the hosts did push forward he nullified their threat.
Although the Dutchman Could have perhaps done better with a header late on in the first-half.
Joao Cancelo - 6.5
Despite most of City’s first-half possession flowing down the left-flank, he struggled to really impose himself on the game with a pair of nutmegs on Youssoufa Moukoko the only thing to highlight for the Portuguese full-back who was replaced at half-time.
Advert
Rodri - 7
Once again, another reliable performance from the Spaniard. Rodri controlled the tempo of the game well and cancelled out most of Dortmund’s second-half attacks.
Ilkay Gundogan - 7
Much like Rodri, City’s captain produced another solid display. Maybe could have produced more further up the pitch, however.
Phil Foden - 7
One of City’s better forward players this evening. Foden was quiet in the first-half but after being pushed further up the pitch in the second, the academy graduate became more lively.
Riyad Mahrez - 5
A lacklustre evening from the Algerian but could have easily been different. Mahrez won City’s penalty, however his effort was stopped by Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel.
Erling Haaland - 6
Tonight just wasn’t the Norwegian’s night. He struggled to get involved at all really, with only a few glimpses and a blocked shot to report on - like Cancelo, the forward was subbed at half-time.
Julian Alvarez - 6.5
A quiet night for City’s young Argentine, with only a snapshot inside the box worth recalling. Although, he wasn’t helped much going forward.
Substitutes
Bernardo Silva - 7
Came on and provided more control into City’s midfield. Dortmund looked less threatening going forward in the second-half, and that could partly be put down to the introduction of the midfielder.
Manuel Akanji - 7
Another good display from the Swiss defender. Akanji had almost nothing to do but did shut down a couple of Dortmund’s forward flurry's and made a brilliant challenge early into the second-half.
Jack Grealish - N/A
Cole Palmer - N/A
