The City head coach has been with the club since the summer of 2016, and has established new heights during his tenure with the east Manchester club.

But, midway through his seventh season with the reigning Premier League champions, there has been some concern of late as to whether Guardiola would leave the club at the end of the ongoing campaign.
After signing a two-year contract extension in 2020, the 2022/23 season would be his final season at Manchester City, should there be no desire to sign a new deal.
However, an emerging report from Spain has now indicated that Pep Guardiola has made a decision on his Etihad future.

According to the information of Spanish newspaper Sport, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, Pep Guardiola is now just ‘one step away’ from renewing his contract with Manchester City.
Guardiola is described as being ‘delighted’ in his current life at City, and there is certainly ‘no hurry to leave’.
This comes after the Catalan coach decided to begin negotiations with the various relevant officials within the organisation.
The report from Spain states that along with Guardiola himself, Manchester City officials Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano have taken the ongoing break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar to begin with the ‘basis’ for the contract.

This will also include talks about the plans for the Manchester City team.
While there is currently no indication as to how long Pep Guardiola's extension with the club could last, finding a deal will not take long, as everyone involved wants the current format of the project at the home of the Premier League champions to continue.
But why has it taken until now for the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach to open talks?

Sport report that the Manchester City manager did not want any such talks to affect the club’s routine, hence the delay until the period in which the large majority of his first-team squad are out on World Cup duties with their respective nations.
While many supporters accept that Pep Guardiola's reign at Manchester City must come to an end at some stage, some remain hopeful of a lengthy extension.
However, there is an understanding in some quarters that the deal on the table will be a two-year extension, taking Pep Guardiola through to the end of the 2024/2025 season.
