Arsenal Defender On The Shortlist Of Potential Manchester City Transfer Targets

Manchester City have eyed Arsenal's star left-back as a potential transfer target this summer, according to recent reports.

Manchester City, who have already secured the signatures of two strikers; Julian Alvarez and most notably Erling Haaland, are now expected to target other areas during the remainder of the transfer window, with a new left-back and defensive midfielder the rumoured priorities.

Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella has been heavily linked with a possible move from the AMEX to the Etihad, as the Barcelona academy graduate faces continued transfer speculation - following an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri and David Raum of Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga have also been mooted, although numerous reports have suggested Marc Cucurella is the Sky Blues’ first choice.

However, the Scotsman reports that another Premier League star features on Manchester City’s list of possible left-back targets, with Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney an alternative for the Premier League Champions.

The 25-year-old, former Celtic player, moved from Glasgow to the Gunners for £25 million on Deadline Day in the summer of 2019, and penned a new five-year deal with the North London club last year.

Kieran Tierney - who has suffered numerous recent injury issues - made 22 Premier League appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side last season, where he recorded three assists and one goal.

The left-back missed Scotland’s World Cup Play-Off defeat to Ukraine and subsequent UEFA Nations League matches due to a knee injury, after undergoing surgery on an injury sustained in the gym.

That injury also ruled the 25-year-old out of Arsenal’s end to the campaign, as a string of poor results saw the Gunners lose out on a Champions League spot to local rivals Tottenham.

Arsenal have coincidentally been linked with Manchester City left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, although Goodison Park looks like the Ukrainian’s most likely destination, should the 25-year-old leave the Etihad this summer.

Gabriel Jesus is also a target for the Gunners, and the Manchester City forward looks poised to make a £50 million move to the Emirates, as the Brazilian nears the final 12 months of his current contract with the Premier League Champions.

Any further additions to Pep Guardiola’s squad are expected to be dependent on departures, and as well as Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus, England’s Raheem Sterling has been linked with a transfer to the capital - with Chelsea reportedly increasing their interest in the 27-year-old winger.
