Liverpool and Manchester United could do battle in the summer transfer window as they look to strengthen ahead of next season.

The fierce rivals are both looking to add an attacker to their squads this summer, with Bazoumana Toure reportedly a target for both clubs.

The 20-year-old winger has been described as 'one of the most wanted players in Europe', with six Premier League clubs currently linked with a summer deal.

TEAMtalk claim Liverpool's interest in the Ivorian winger is the most advanced after they 'formally registered' their interest with German club TSG Hoffenheim. It is claimed they view Toure as a long-term solution on the left wing, though he is also capable of playing on the right.

The report also states that United are 'firmly in the race' to sign Toure as they consider adding another attacker to their forward line this summer. Toure enjoyed an impressive full debut season in the German Bundesliga as he scored five goals and notched 12 assists in only 30 league appearances.

One of the most wanted players in Europe

Even if Liverpool or United decide to pursue a move for Toure, they are expected to face fierce competition to complete a transfer this summer.

Aston Villa have been described as 'very interested' in a possible deal following their qualification for the Champions League, with Newcastle United another club pushing for his signature. It is also claimed that both Brighton and Brentford have explored a possible move this summer.

It is understood that Hoffenheim are under pressure to sell the 20-year-old after they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Although he is under contract until 2029, the German club would find it difficult to turn down a significant bid for the forward, who is expected to earn them a club-record transfer fee.

The report suggests Hoffenheim values Toure at roughly £43 million, a figure that would just beat the £40m sale of Joelinton to Newcastle United in 2019. Liverpool previously did business with the Bundesliga club when they spent £29m to sign Roberto Firmino back in 2015.

There is no release clause in Toure's current contract, so Hoffenheim does have control over his immediate future, as they look to secure the biggest fee possible should he be sold.

A move to the Premier League would cap a remarkable rise for the youngster, who only joined Hoffenheim from Swedish first-division club Hammarby IF in February 2025. Even then, he only joined Hammarby in March 2024, having completed a move from his hometown club ASEC Mimosas in the Ivory Coast.
