Kalvin Phillips has undergone surgery on his shoulder problem that has caused havoc to his Manchester City availability so far this season, it has been confirmed.
The England international's start to life at the Etihad Stadium has been far from straight forward.
After completing a blockbuster £43 million move from Leeds United to the Premier League champions during the summer, the expectation was that Kalvin Phillips would challenge Rodri for the starting defensive midfield role under Pep Guardiola.

However, the Spain international has been the mainstay for the majority of the campaign so far.
A reoccurring shoulder problem has meant Phillips has been unable to gain any sort of momentum when granted opportunities, and his showing at the Camp Nou in a charity friendly with Barcelona in August ended in injury disappointment.
With that being said however, a decision has now been taken to take action on the problem hampering Kalvin Phillips' season, in the hope that he could make a full recovery in time for the World Cup and Manchester City manic second-half of the season.

According to a new update from The Sun, Kalvin Phillips had 'successful' surgery on his shoulder problem last week.
The report from Martin Blackburn quotes a sources from Manchester City, who has told the newspaper that the operation went to plan.
This now means that Phillips can begin his road to recovery with the hope of making a return towards the back end of October, and making Gareth Southgate's final squad for Qatar.

On the injury itself, Pep Guardiola recently revealed that Phillips had seen his shoulder 'pop out' three or four times already, leaving medical experts with a simple decision of choosing surgery as the next step.
The Manchester City manager said earlier this month, "I don’t know (how long Kalvin Phillips will be out for) - I’m not a doctor - but in a good way he can arrive for the World Cup.
"The doctor said the only solution right now is to do what he has to do.

"Now it will be not long but a little bit longer."
Pep Guardiola continued, "Every time it's out (the shoulder), it's out and doctors (say that) when you have three or four times (where) it's out (with) the shoulder, the only solution is to have surgery."
Back on the field, and Manchester City return to action this weekend.
