Jake Paul's next opponent 'announced' as boxing fans slam 'embarrassing' fight

Jake Paul is set to return to action this summer following his victory over Mike Tyson.

Jake Paul's next opponent has been 'announced' as boxing fans have slammed the proposed fight.

Paul is looking for his next fight, having fought Mike Tyson on Netflix in his last outing.

He lured the boxing legend, 58, out of retirement, as he scored a unanimous decision victory last November.

And it appears the 28-year-old will be facing another former world champion, having failed to secure a blockbuster showdown against Canelo Alvarez.

According to The Ring, Paul is set to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. - the son of Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez.

The bout will be contested at cruiserweight and is set to take place this summer.

Despite Paul taking on a former world champion, boxing fans have questioned Chavez Jr. as an opponent considering his inactivity and the fact that he lost to former UFC champion Anderson Silva.

One X user wrote: "So another non active boxer. Embarrassing."

A second said: "What a joke! Instead of a retired MMA fighter it’s a washed up boxer who actually loses to MMA fighters."

A third added: "A joke honestly."

Chavez Jr., 39, hasn't fought since his victory over ex-UFC fighter Uriah Hall on the undercard of Paul's win over Mike Perry last summer.

The Mexican boxer boasts an extensive professional record, having recorded 54 wins. He's lost six times, suffering defeats to the likes of Sergio Martinez, Canelo and Daniel Jacobs.

He reigned as the WBC world middleweight champion from 2011 to 2012 after capturing the green and gold belt against Sebastian Zbik.

Since Paul's boxing debut, Chavez Jr. has only fought five times, winning three of those contests.

'The Problem Child', meanwhile, won the 11th fight of his pro career when he beat Tyson.

He has beaten the likes of Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz and the aforementioned Silva, while suffering his lone defeat to Tommy Fury in February 2023.
