Anthony Joshua gives extremely honest assessment of Daniel Dubois defeat in first radio interview following brutal KO

Joshua has given an honest assessment of the shock defeat

Anthony Joshua has given a brutally honest assessment of his shock knockout defeat to the IBF World Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Dubois.

Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round of their Heavyweight title fight, as he looked to become a three-time boxing Heavyweight champion.

Immediately after the fight Anthony Joshua ran into Steve Bunce of BBC Five Live, where he was asked about the first round of their fight.

The opening to the fight saw AJ take some massive shots, with Dubois dominating from the jump.

When asked specifically about his opening round, Joshua said: “Overhand right, chin in the air, no defence, kaboom. It was a bit of a downhill slope from there, tried to change the tide. But, it just weren’t my night tonight Steve.”

Despite it being the round in which he got knocked out, the fifth outing of the fight saw the most success Joshua found all fight.

Bunce suggested that he ‘looked sharper, his hands were higher’ and that he looked more ‘focused’.

When prompted about this, AJ said: “Yeah, and then I caught him with a good shot I think and then I tried to go for it and then I got caught with an overhand right when I was throwing the uppercut.

“Thing is, I wasn’t setting shots up. In a shoot-out like that, you really got to be a bit more sniper-esque.

“But when you’ve been hit a few times it’s survival, I’m in survival mode. I just want to get him out of there. We had a shootout and he hit me.”

When asked if he’s finished fighting the Watford-born Heavyweight said: “Nah, nah. We’re gladiators. We had a bad night at the office. Listen, the people wanna see me fight? I’ll fight.”

Eddie Hearn has already confirmed post-fight that Joshua’s next fight will likely be a rematch against Dubois, with a clause in his contract allowing an immediate second chance against the IBF World Heavyweight Champion.

Hearn also later stated though that there is already a deal agreed for ‘Riyadh Season’, saying that ‘Daniel Dubois is part of that plan, but so too could be Tyson Fury or another heavyweight’.
