Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has shown his backing of Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market by sanctioning the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan despite not being fully convinced it is the right decision, according to reports.
The 29-year-old looks set to depart in the coming weeks with a move back to Italy nearing as talks continue between the two clubs.
Inter had a bid of €5 million plus €2 million in add-ons rejected earlier this week but further discussions are set to take place as the negotiations take a decisive step to striking an agreement.

The Serie A side are set to make an improved offer of at least €10 million which is expected to convince Chelsea to let the Belgium international leave on loan this summer.
Lukaku's relationship with Thomas Tuchel looks to be all but done. He is unlikely to play for Chelsea again while Tuchel is in charge, which highlights the faith and backing of the manager from the new owners - the consortium led by Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
This comes as no surprise after their transfer meeting which Boehly promised Tuchel full control over incomings and outgoings, with the new owners doing everything they can to support their manager with bringing in those respective targets, as well as offloading any players surplus to requirements.

But Boehly's stance of the Lukaku situation and his future has now been revealed by The Athletic.
The American billionaire is 'still to be fully convinced' that letting him leave on a temporary basis is the correct call after Chelsea shelled out £97.5 million on him last summer, as well as him scoring 15 goals in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.
Inter Milan CEO Alessandro Antonello revealed that Lukaku has a 'great desire' to return, admitting: “There is a great desire on the part of Lukaku to return.

"What needs to be verified are the economic and financial feasibility and the resolution of some technical problems. However, it is better to talk to Dr. Marotta about this."
Tuchel is being shown faith, a positive sign of things to come from the new owners. The manager is being given the power rather than the big money signings.
With an obstacle soon to be out the way for Tuchel, it's now up to him to find the solution to Lukaku's departure as Chelsea look to challenge for the title next season. Their 2022/23 Premier League campaign begins on Saturday 6th August away to Everton.
