Timo Werner is getting closer to re-joining RB Leipzig as talks with Chelsea continue over a summer transfer, according to reports.
The 26-year-old’s future at Chelsea looks increasingly uncertain with his former club Leipzig showing interest.
Since moving for £47.5 million in the summer of 2020, it just hasn’t worked out for Werner, who is now eyeing an exit to ensure he gives himself the best chance of making the Germany World Cup squad for Qatar later this year.

Werner admitted last month that he could be happier away from Chelsea, with the Blues open to selling the forward, although Tuchel hadn’t been informed by him that he wanted to leave.
The Chelsea coach responded: “I’m surprised, I would be very happy as a young guy having a contract at Chelsea Football Club. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet.
“Show quality, take your place and defend your place. I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea. If he said this, I do not understand.”

Talks over his future have begun and Leipzig could re-sign the forward who scored 90 goals and registered 40 assists in 156 appearances in all competitions.
Now, as reported by Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Werner is nearing a move back to Germany this summer.
There is ‘confidence’ over a deal to seal Werner’s switch back to Leipzig, with a move being worked on by all parties.

Werner wants to ensure he moves to the right club and is prioritising a destination that is the right fit which will offer him regular minutes, instead of focusing on his wage.
The 26-year-old is already reported to be willing to take a pay cut to seal a return to Leipzig.
Real Madrid and Newcastle United have shown interest in the Germany international, but it appears as though he is heading back home.
Meanwhile, Marcos Alonso is reportedly close to an exit too with a switch to Barcelona on the horizon.

After they missed out on Cesar Azpilicueta, who signed a new two-year deal with Chelsea, Alonso is wanted as their next arrival.
He is pushing for a move and claims in Spain suggested he had already said some goodbyes to a few employees at Chelsea.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, an agreement between the clubs for the wing-back is close, with just the final details of the deal to be ironed out.
