Graham Potter has been told to fix the ‘broken’ Chelsea side left behind by Thomas Tuchel after replacing him as the club’s head coach earlier this week.
The 47-year-old was appointed as Tuchel’s successor on a five-year contract after co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali and other members of the board decided it was beneficial to make an early managerial change.
Chelsea made the decision to sack Tuchel after just seven games played of 2022/23 and end the 49-year-old’s 19-month reign following his 100th match in charge that ended in a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

In a performance that was described as ‘everything is missing’ by the now former boss, Chelsea are struggling for confidence despite early season wins over Everton, Leicester City and West Ham.
They will embark on their next chapter under Potter, who has already taken his first training session at Cobham, with their first match coming against FC Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.
Potter will be hoping to get off to the perfect start but will need to ingrain his methods into the side over the coming days before the European clash.

However, the new Chelsea head coach has been told by former Premier League midfielder Emmanuel Petit that something is broken at the club which Potter needs to fix.
Speaking to Lord Ping, Petit said: “Something is broken at Chelsea and I hope with a new manager that things will change, but it will take time. Before sorting their performances out on the pitch, they must first sort out the dressing room.”

He added: “Graham Potter is a gamble for Chelsea. I have big respect for the work Potter has done at Brighton; the team has improved so much but Chelsea is a new world for him, it's completely different.
"The standards and egos of the players are not the same.

“I hope he will succeed, but it's a big gamble.

"I have no idea how the players will react to his appointment but I can imagine some will be happy and some will be unhappy.”
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, along with the other members of the squad, have been below par this season and need to improve their levels.
Petit added: “Chelsea have many players, like Mason Mount, who are far away from the level they need to be at.”
Their first chance will come on Wednesday night against Salzburg in a game that Chelsea need to claim all three points in to keep their chances of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages high.
