Chelsea have opened talks with Mason Mount over a new contract at the club amid Edouard Mendy’s rejection of an initial fresh deal proposed to him, according to reports.
Even though the transfer window has now shut, the Blues are still keen to work on their squad and ensure they keep their best players for as long as possible.
The west London side have already been doing just that amid the recent new deal given to Armando Broja, keeping him at the club until 2028.

Most notably, Reece James has put pen to paper on a fresh contract at Stamford Bridge.
The 22-year-old is now thought to be the highest paid defender in the club’s history, with the right wing-back set to earn around £250,000-per-week through his new six-year deal.
Such deals give a clear idea of how Chelsea’s new ownership are looking to operate, and it looks as though they are not ready to stop there.
According to the Evening Standard, co-owner Todd Boehly and Mount have had ‘provisional discussions’ over a new contract at the club.

His current deal, which he signed back in 2019, has just two years remaining on it but it is said that he will become one of the highest earners at the club should he sign a new one.
A formal offer has not yet been made to the 23-year-old, but the report says that there is optimism surrounding an agreement, especially when the England international is happy at the club.
Goalkeeper Mendy is also set to be offered a new contract at Chelsea, but he has already rejected an initial offer.
It is thought that the Senegalese international was offered terms that were lower than those of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard earns around £190,000-per-week at the Blues, whilst Mendy is one of the club’s lowest earners as of now.
James’ new contract has come as great news for Chelsea fans, considering the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid were said to be showing an interest.
Upon the announcement of the deal, Boehly said: “We are thrilled to give Reece a new-long term contract at Chelsea.

"He is an outstanding player and a true Chelsea man, and we are all looking forward to watching him continue to flourish at Stamford Bridge."
Fellow co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano also shared their verdict when they added:
"Reece is a very special footballer and one we love having at Chelsea under our ownership.
"His blend of physical and technical ability is a huge asset to our team now and for many years to come."
