John Cena has revealed why he follows over 900,000 people on Twitter.

The WWE legend currently has 14.4 million followers on the social media platform now known as X - a number that could rise significantly more as he embarks on his 12-month retirement tour from wrestling.

Cena is scheduled to appear on 36 dates across 2025 before ending his in-ring career in December. He has stated he will no longer wear his wrestling attire in any appearances beyond that but will remain with WWE as an ambassador.

While the 47-year-old is putting some of his Hollywood duties on hold over the next 12 months, he has carved out a second career as an actor after achieving significant success in the wrestling ring.

His wrestling and acting resume have both contributed to his popularity on Twitter - but fans have often wondered why Cena follows so many people, a departure from the norm for many high-profile accounts.

At the time of writing, Cena follows over 948,200 people on the platform, with many of those being accounts he has never met in-person or will even have had any knowledge of before following them.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal last year, Cena revealed why he has so many accounts in his 'Following' tab.

He explained: "The reason I want to follow everyone is because I want to hear from everyone.

"You get everyone's opinion, and through that you can develop your own opinions.

"I've got to be honest, there's a lot of negativity on there. I want to be exposed to all that, even the toxicity.

"I'm curious and I don't ever want to lose my curiosity for life. But I try to put out something positive and thought-provoking every day."

Cena is booked to wrestle at the 2025 Royal Rumble event on February 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana - though it is possible that he could appear on either Raw or SmackDown beforehand.

The record-equalling 16-time WWE Champion is one of a number of high-profile names set to compete in the men's Royal Rumble match, with Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre also confirming their entries.

Only one man - 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, with three - has won the Royal Rumble more times than Cena, who was the last man standing in both 2008 and 2012.
