John Cena paid one of the biggest fines in WWE history despite having nothing to do with the incident

The WWE icon shelled out an insane amount for the fine.

WWE superstar John Cena once paid a breathtaking fine for an incident in the organisation that he was not even involved in.

Cena is undoubtedly one of the greatest wrestlers ever to compete in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), with no one in the history of the organisation winning more World Championships than the 47-year-old.

Throughout his 25 year career, the American has clashed with some of the biggest names in wrestling including Dwanye Johnson, Brock Lesnar and even CM Punk.

But none of his superstar fights were responsible for the enormous fine Cena was handed during his career which has gone down as one of the largest in the history of the sport.

In April 2018, Matt Rehwoldt, known as Aiden English during his time in WWE, was involved in an incident that led to he a his fellow wrestlers being handed a huge £88,000 fine by the organisation, which Cena offered to pay.

Speaking on his YouTube channel in December 2020, Rehwoldt revealed: "It was me, Rusev, and Baron Corbin versus the Usos and AJ Styles in a six-man tag dark match.

"In the conclusion The Usos decided we were gonna do something fun where they started throwing a superkick party.

"They started throwing kick after kick after kick, and we just all keep feeding in, and it’s just all non-stop for five minutes.

"But as we go they 'kick, kick' everybody pretty much in the match except the referee, and so the audience starts chanting 'referee, referee.'

"Then BOOM, the ref kicks me. Everybody exploded, and the crowd loved it."

However, while the crowd loved the wrestler's antics, the WWE's Talent Relations producers were reportedly furious with them for their actions.

"We get backstage, and we get chewed and a new one," Rehwoldt added.

"We had to fly right down to New Orleans for WrestleMania, and we get sat down, and we get threatened with release, with gigantic fines, $10,000, $20,000 fines, all this stuff."

Thankfully for the wrestlers, they were saved a significant amount of money after Cena decided to pay the fine in full, as Rehwoldt later confirmed on X.
