From one cool, calm and composed ex-Manchester United midfielder to a current one deploying those same qualities, Michael Carrick is in awe of Christian Eriksen this season.
Following last weekend’s ‘Legends of the North’ fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool’s former players, Michael Carrick was full of praise for recent summer signing Christian Eriksen.
United have lacked a midfielder with the abilities of Eriksen, probably since the departure of Carrick, who announced his retirement in 2018, and the Englishman is a huge fan of United’s no.14.

“I’m not surprised one bit (by Eriksen’s form),” said Carrick speaking to MUTV on Saturday.
He continued: “I played against him a lot; I watched him a lot. I like him a lot. He’s a fantastic footballer. He’s clever, he’s smart.”
Since arriving at Old Trafford, Eriksen has assisted twice, enjoying his best spell in Red in October as he was named United’s player of the month.
Though the Dane has played the majority of his career behind the striker, Erik ten Hag has utilised Eriksen deeper in midfield often alongside Scott McTominay.

On Ten Hag’s choice of position for Eriksen, Carrick said: “It almost doesn’t matter what position he plays. He can adapt. He’s just a clever, intelligent footballer with great quality.”
Carrick continued: “I was pleased when we signed him, and he’s not surprised me one bit. He’s a top player.”
The 41-year-old is currently enjoying a break from football having taken temporary charge of United in three games last season following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Between then and 2018, Carrick acted as assistant manager firstly for Jose Mourinho, and then the Norwegian.
