Cristiano Ronaldo has made further attempts to get Manchester United to give him a pathway out of the club.

It has been news for over a month now that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United.

This is down to multiple reasons, however it has been cited that the main reasons for his desire to leave are down to a lack of Champions League football and unsatisfactory transfer activity.

The club have signed three players so far this summer in Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.

It was suggested earlier in the window that Erik ten Hag wants five players this window to fix some glaring holes in the squad, however it is clear that Ronaldo feels the club are not doing enough to fix the obvious issues.

It has now come to light that the player is reportedly ‘begging’ Manchester United to set a transfer fee on him so that he can trigger a move that is already on the table for the Portuguese striker.

Manchester United have held firm in their position surrounding the saga, stating that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be sold this window, but with the strikers constant pushes in an attempt to leave the club, his camp reportedly believe that this view may change

During crunch talks with the United higher-ups on Tuesday, Mendes reportedly told the chiefs that he had a live offer but the club must name a specific transfer fee in order for the deal to be completed.

It can be easily speculated that the destination in question is likely to be Atletico Madrid, as they are so far the only club apart from United to express at least some form of interest in taking the player on within their ranks next season.

This is in spite of a statement being released from an Atletico Madrid fan group that demanded the club cease all interest in the player entirely.

"In light of the possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo, if it is more than a simple rumour without any basis, we express our absolute rejection of his hypothetical joining of our club," read the statement.

"The aforementioned player represents the antithesis of the values that constitute the hallmarks of our Atleti, such as the effort, generosity, modesty and humility of those who want to defend our values.”

There have also been reports in the last few months that Cristiano Ronaldo has asked the club to terminate his contract.

This was unquestionably denied by the club, who “balked” at the suggestion they should simply release him on a free transfer because of what was described as his “loyalty” to the club.

Manchester United are set to play Atletico Madrid in a pre-season friendly this coming Saturday, with reports suggesting that Erik ten Hag will be fielding his strongest possible XI for the fixture in a bid to get 90 minutes in all his best players' legs.

There is a chance that both Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez will both make their unofficial debuts for the club in front of fans for the first time in said fixture.

Both Eriksen and Martinez played in United’s closed-doors friendly against Wrexham in a 4-1 win, with Eriksen scoring the sides first goal with a free kick.

Cristiano Ronaldo watched on but did not take part in the fixture, and it is unlikely that he will be involved this weekend.

Manchester United also take on Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford this Sunday, with Ten Hag keen to use the fixture to field a second string side for 90 minutes to continue building his whole squad’s fitness.

Manchester United will take on Brighton & Hove Albion on 7 August as Erik ten Hag makes his competitive bow at Old Trafford.
