Manchester United’s four game Premier League win streak came to an end on Sunday as they fell to defeat at the hands of local rivals Manchester City at the Etihad stadium.
Surprisingly, Christian Eriksen was one of the Manchester United players to complete 90 minutes after experiencing a tough afternoon in midfield up against Manchester City’s trio of Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Kevin de Bruyne.
After the 6-3 defeat, Eriksen said: “The main focus from this game should be on ourselves and there are many things we have to change. It was far from acceptable.”
United’s midfield often looked rigid, partly down to Pep Guardiola’s advanced midfielders finding space in the wider areas, leading to openings in the midfield with Eriksen often finding himself quite a distance away from his partner Scott McTominay.

Unlike United sides of previous years however, Eriksen believes there is a sense of accountability within the squad.
He continued: “As a group, everyone will be looking at themselves, we will have a meeting with the manager tomorrow (Monday) to go through everything that went wrong today.
“It came very heavy; everyone feels it as a very bad day at the office. We started on the wrong foot, and they had a lot of chances from kick-off. We have to blame ourselves.”

Next up for United is a trip to Cyprus as they take on Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.
Looking ahead, Eriksen said: “We have to take this as a tough defeat, and it is about getting back up and showing character. We need to do that.”
Next Sunday, United face Frank Lampard’s Everton where they will be hoping to bounce back in the league.
