Winter has arrived and getting out of bed has never been harder. But if you’re determined to stick to your exercise routine no matter the weather, we've found an affordable solution.

Nothing spurs us on more than good workout gear and with the sudden drop in temperature, we've been relying on a £8 accessory to stay fit.

Enter: Uniqlo’s HEATTECH range.

What you need to know about the range

No one does winter wardrobe essentials better than Uniqlo and the brand's HEATTECH range is no exception. Designed to regulate body temperature and keep you warm during cold-weather activities, these £7.90 thermal ribbed socks are ideal for runs, cycles, and walks - no matter the forecast. After trying the thermal socks, we were pleasantly surprised by how lightweight they are, as this means they fit nice and snug in trainers without fuss.

Best of all? They really do work. We were sceptical, but they’ve kept toes warm throughout a range of cold-weather activities so far. In fact, they've even been spotted around the office too.

They've also gone down well with shoppers. One five-star review reads: “The toastiest socks I’ve ever worn. I took them on a winter trip to Iceland and they were one of my favourite items of clothing.” Another shopper wrote, “Cosy toes. These ribbed HEATTECH socks hold their promise. They keep my feet warm and are comfortably soft.”

Note: they do occasionally roll down due to the nature of the style, so make sure to choose the right size for you. At £7.90, they're a real bargain and come in four colours: black, white, grey, and dark green. If you’d prefer a crew style sock for trainers, try the Soft Pile Half Thermal Socks instead.

The best Uniqlo thermals to stay active this winter

Whether you play five-a-side or have a 5k run you can't get out of, the HEATTECH range will do the job. From cashmere base layers and leggings to the touchscreen gloves at the top of everyone's wish list, get kitted out in our round-up of the best Uniqlo thermals below.

HEATTECH Extra Warm Cashmere Blend Crew Neck T-Shirt, £14.90

If you’re looking for a base layer for winter runs and walks, then consider the Extra Warm Cashmere Blend Crew Neck T-Shirt. It’s rated 1.5 times warmer than the brand’s regular HEATTECH range due to its 9% cashmere blend - and we can confirm it’s comfortable.

In fact, it gives the same warmth as standard thermals with 70% less weight for a lightweight base layer when playing outdoor sports this winter. It's available in five colours: grey, black, pink, green, natural, and olive.

HEATTECH Extra Warm Leggings, £14.90

Thermal activewear is hard to come by, but the HEATTECH Extra Warm Leggings show how it’s done. According to Uniqlo, they’re 1.5 times warmer than regular items in the HEATTECH range with 100% extra brushed cotton on the interior. Its ultra-stretch fabric means they’re easy to move in too.

One review reads: “The perfect leggings. Soft but slightly elastic fabric that hugs the shape well. Very comfortable to wear, and very warm without being stifling either. Perfect as indoor wear but versatile enough to go out of the house and go for a walk or play sports.”

The men’s HEATTECH Extra Warm Cotton Tights are available in sizes XL to 3XL and customers have raved about them - with many wearing the base layer to camp, cycle, and play sport.

One review reads, “Bought as a base layer for outdoor activities works very well. Very happy with them.” Another shopper said: “Brought this for my son’s trip to Scandinavia. He likes wearing these under warmers as he says they hardly feel like you’re wearing anything and are not too bulky, but provide warmth. They don’t restrict his movement when cycling.”

Buy women’s leggings. Buy men’s leggings.

HEATTECH Lined Touchscreen Gloves, £19.90

If you’ve been searching for the perfect pair of running gloves, then consider this a sign. Designed for winter sports activities, the Uniqlo Touchscreen Gloves boast a HEATTECH fleece lining to keep hands warm with a BLOCKTECH exterior to keep cold air out.

The best part? You can still use your phone on the move with conductive fabric for touchscreen use. Again, we've tried it, and can vouch that it works. They’re available in black and olive green with a fastening so you never lose a glove again. What more could you want?
