A Strongman who suffered a horrendous injury when he ruptured the patella tendons in his knees while at a competition has given an update on his recovery in hospital.
Dan Jones suffered the injury when he was carrying 80kg of weight in his hands, before sliding forward onto his knees in what he has described as a 'freak accident' at a Strongman final in Southport on September 1, with his injury captured on video.

He underwent surgery after he ruptured two patella knee tendons and has been in hospital since then as he continues his recovery.
The 29-year-old father had been training to compete in Strongman since the beginning of this year, finishing first place in the First Time category at the Manchester Strongman competition back in July.
Discussing his injury and how it happened, Jones said: "After slowing down the video with doctors and surgeons, it looks like my right knee patellar tendon snaps out of nowhere, which causes my leg to fold underneath me.

"Then my left knee bends underneath me and this tendon snaps on impact with the ground. I felt like I was on fire, my kneecaps were in my quads because my tendons ruptured.
"The weirdest thing I remember is silence. The whole crowd was cheering everyone on and then it went deathly silent and I just lay on the floor," he added.
Jones has been rehabilitating in hospital following his surgery and has now given an update on his condition and how his recovery is progressing.

Taking to TikTok, he has posted a video showing he is now walking with a zimmer frame with braces on his legs as he has started to walk again.
He touches the door at the end of the corridor, which is the exit, before making his way back from where he has just walked as he continues to recover from his dreadful double injury.
In the caption, he wrote: “Day 19 and I’m touching the exit door hoping to get out the hospital and home.
“We’re not a million miles away I just need be able to stand up in my own. We’re getting close.”

Despite his progress appearing to go well, his recovery will be a long one as doctors have said Jones will not be able to walk without assistance until at least February next year.
Though he would like to do aspects of Strongman activities if possible and head back to the gym, his main goal moving forwards is to be a father to his daughter first and foremost.
He added: "My biggest goal is to be a dad and be able to chase my daughter around and play with her. I should be able to go to the gym and do aspects of the Strongman things.
"The surgeon has said it could be the end of all the Strongman competitions, but it's a case-by-case basis.

"He said it would be very rare that I'd be able to compete at the level I was again, but we don't know until I start healing."
