Hossein Vafaei refused to shake Mark Williams' hand after his 4-1 defeat to the Welshman at the World Grand Prix on Wednesday evening.

The Iranian snooker star endured a difficult evening in Leicester, as he misread the score and ended up losing the second frame on the black to go 2-0 down.

Williams then racked up two of the final three frames to secure a relatively comfortable victory.

The three-time world champion will now progress to the quarter-finals, where he takes on Cao Yupeng.

But the clash against Vafaei didn't pass without drama, as the Iranian refused to shake Williams' hand at the conclusion of the match before 'storming off'.

You can watch the incident below.

Speaking after the match, Williams attempted to explain what happened - and recalled a bizarre incident earlier on in the encounter.

He said: "I just pulled him up about it and said, 'What's your problem?' He said it was because I slapped my leg at the end, when I won.

"I slapped my leg at the end because I shouldn't have gone for the pink, I should have played safe.

"I thought he would have come back to the table and carried on for snookers, that's why I was a bit fuming.

"He just stormed off, but if that's the reason... I don't care anyway!"

In response to a fan on X (Twitter), Williams called the incident 'pathetic', and added in a separate tweet: "I was a good admirer of his game as well, all my family liked him. Not sure they do after that now."

The 'Welsh Potting Machine' will now look to secure his first ranking event title since October, when he beat Mark Selby in the final of the British Open.

He was knocked out in the first round of the Masters earlier this month, losing 6-4 to eventual finalist Ali Carter.
