A mouthy ice hockey fan was given his just dessert after calling a fellow spectator the N-word at a game.

The mullet-sporting Dallas Stars supporter was punched squarely in the face, sparking a fiery melee in the stands.

Footage has since emerged of the incident and it's ugly to say the least.

According to TMZ, fans in attendance for the Dallas Stars vs Minnesota Wild game witnessed a nasty altercation take place prior to the first face-off taking place.

But this wasn't the players brawling like were used to seeing.

Instead, it was punches were being thrown by members of the crowd at the American Airlines Center.

Tempers flared when two spectators allegedly began squabbling about whose seat was whose.

In a video posted to social media, a younger looking chap with a pretty ghastly bowl-cut mullet rose to his feet and started squaring up to the man in the row behind him.

"How about you step down here and I'll box your ass," the lad said.

The bloke in the black polo shirt refused to bite back – that was until the younger fan, who is white, decided to drop the N-word.

"All right then," he added

"Stay the f**k up there. Dumbass n****."

Without thinking twice, the man launched a haymaker in the kid's direction, catching him flush on the chops, which knocked him two rows in front.

Regathering himself momentarily, the kid quickly sprung back to his feet and launched an attack of his own – although he didn't get too far.

Like an offensive lineman in the NFL, the guy behind simply grabbed the mullet-sporting kid by his green Stars shirt and kept him at arms length.

A woman, reportedly the Stars fan's girlfriend, then began windmilling in herself in an attempt to get ahold of the bloke in the polo shirt.

The barrage of swings missed as fellow spectators tried to defuse the situation.

Meanwhile, mullet was being held down by the man he called the n-word.

It's understood they were booted from the arena but it remains unknown whether local police got involved.

One Instagram user provided some context on how the exchange unfolded.

"Long story short, mullet got in my face after running his mouth because he had to move out of my seats," he said.

"The other fans stepped in, guy in the black ended up rocking this kid. The. they got tossed.

"Funny part... this girlfriend in the Stars jersey works at @aacenter."

As for the game itself, Dallas cruises to a 4-1 victory over Minnesota.
