Bodybuilder, 20, dies after making 'serious error' before competition as terrifying 911 call reveals new details

20-year-old Jodi Vance suffered a fatal heart attack while attending a bodybuilding competition in Columbus, Ohio.

A 20-year-old bodybuilder died after making a "significant error" prior to a competition in Columbus, Ohio - with the 911 audio released providing further details.

Last week, Jodi Vance was attending the event at the Arnold Sports Festival but suffered a heart attack in her hotel room and sadly passed away despite the best efforts to revive her at Grant Medical hospital.

Vance, who placed third 2024 NPC Battle of Texas in the women’s physique division, was not scheduled to be competing in the games and was instead attending to help coach her clients.

On Vance's fitness page on Instagram, her family said her "heart stopped due to complications of severe dehydration" and called her passing "sudden and unexpected".

TMZ Sports shared the audio from the 911 call Vance’s wife made to Columbus Police where she said that her other half had "passed out in bed" and had been "throwing up all morning".

She then became unconscious, with Vance's wife telling the operator: "She won’t wake up and won’t respond to us."

Although help was arrived and Vance was taken to hospital, she could not be saved.

Vance's family announced the death and called the "beautiful inside and out". With permission from her mother Jennifer, her coach Justin Mihaly issued a statement where he

claimed he had knowledge she was using "two extremely hazardous substances".

In a video on his Instagram page, Mihaly described Jodi as a "beam of light" who was "freaking loved". He proceeded to share the "error" she made in a bid to ensure it doesn't happen again.

He said: "The person she was, the way that she loved, I want to highlight and I want to remember Jodi that way.

"But Jodi was not prepping for Arnold... There is no reason that she should have been dehydrating."

Stating that her health had become "quite concerning", Mihaly said that Jodi's sheer drive and determination made it difficult to get her to "pull back".

He added: "Many people who loved Jodi, including myself, had tried to get her to pull off the gas pedal a bit and anyone who knows Jodi knows what a challenge that would be.

"Her work ethic was actually second to nobody, it was so hard to get her to pull back."

Mihaly went on to state he believes Jodi may have used a drug which he did not approve of - claiming he was told that the hospital uncovered a "insanely high reading" of potassium, which suggested she used a diuretic.

Finishing the video, Mihaly said: "You are welcome to direct your blame towards me if that’s how you believe we can best honour Jodi."
