Olympic star banished from athletes' village after testing positive for banned substance at 2024 Games

Olympic star banished from athletes' village after testing positive for banned substance at 2024 Games

They are the latest athlete to be removed from the athletes' village at the Olympic Games in Paris.

An athlete has left the Olympic village after testing positive for a banned substance, their team has announced.

There have already been a number of controversial incidents at the 2024 Games in Paris this summer, with several athletes breaching rules.

Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira was sent home by her team after sneaking out of the village to party with her boyfriend Gabriel Santos in Paris.

While Santos was only given a stern warning by his national Olympic association, Vieira was handed a far harsher punishment – being sent home in disgrace.

It was claimed that Vieira's "disrespectful" and "aggressive" reaction to disciplinary action was significant enough for the Brazilian Olympic Association to send her back home.

Meanwhile, Paraguayan swimmer Luana Alonso has also been removed from the village after allegedly creating an 'inappropriate environment'.

The decision came just days after she announced her retirement from competitive competition.

Now an unnamed Greek athlete has been sent away after allegedly testing positive for a banned substance.

The Greek Olympic Committee announced that the athlete has been expelled from the athletes' village pending further investigation into the matter.

Reuters report that the Greek team were informed of the positive test on Monday afternoon by Greece's anti-doping agency.

The athlete, whose name and sport have not been revealed, has been provisionally suspended and moved away from the team.

Anti-doping rules allow the athlete the right to request a second sample test.

So far the Paris Games have seen only a handful of positive tests during the competition.

Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Cynthia Ogunsemilore of Nigeria was removed from the Olympics last week after testing positive for a banned substance, the International Testing Agency (ITA) said on Saturday.

The 22-year-old tested positive for the diuretic furosemide - a masking agent that can hide the presence of other drugs - in a sample taken on Thursday, the ITA said.

Meanwhile, Iraqi judoka Sajjad Sehen tested positive for two anabolic steroids the day before the start of the Games in Paris.
