The NFL have made a decision over Super Bowl LIX following the deadly attack in New Orleans.

15 people were killed and at least 35 others were injured after a man drove into a large crowd in New Orleans in the early hours of New Year's Day.

In the wake of the attack, the Sugar Bowl, which was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, was postponed.

Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley said that after consulting with representatives from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Georgia Bulldogs schools, the conferences and ESPN, 'all parties agreed that it's in the best interest of everybody and public safety that we postpone the game for 24 hours'.

Hundley said the Sugar Bowl Committee was 'devastated by the terrible events'.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families," the statement said.

"We are in ongoing discussions with authorities on the local, state, and federal levels and will communicate further details as they become available," said Hundley.

A decision has since been made over this year's Super Bowl, which is set to take place at New Orleans's Caesars Superdome.

The NFL expressed their condolences to the victims before reassuring fans that Super Bowl LIX will be a 'safe and enjoyable experience' following the terror attack.

A statement read: "We are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating incident in New Orleans. Our thoughts are with the victims, the New Orleans community and all those affected.

"The NFL and the local host committee have been working collaboratively with local, state and federal agencies the past two years and have developed comprehensive security plans. These planning sessions will continue as they do with all major NFL events and we are confident attendees will have a safe and enjoyable Super Bowl experience."
