Rihanna has sent the internet into overdrive after sharing a very cryptic post to social media, tipping off her followers to a major announcement.

The Grammy award winning songstress pulled a bit of a quick one on fans who have been waiting for new music for what feels like an age by sharing a picture of her hand with an NFL football.

The rumour mill was already in hyperdrive over chatter that she would headline the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February 2023.

Her label Roc Nation later officially confirmed the singer’s participation through a statement released on Sunday (September 25).

Excitement over the news has already been coming fast, with people taking to social media to share their excitement.

Another said: "Guess I’m going to the Super Bowl."

Many others posted variations of 'OMG' and "WHAT", but Justin Bieber summed it up well.

Commenting on his fellow pop-star's post, he said: "The Queen is back."
