WNBA's Sophie Cunningham Issues Two Word Response to Charlie Kirk Fatal Shooting

WNBA star Sophie Cunningham has issued a heartfelt two-word response to Charlie Kirk's fatal shooting.

Kirk was shot dead while speaking at a student rally at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. with a manhunt still ongoing for his killer.

The right-wing activist was a prominent ally of President Donald Trump and was widely known for engaging in debates with students across the country. He was credited for helping to build the Republican base among younger voters, and had more than eight million followers on his TikTok channel, The Charlie Kirk Show.

A manhunt is ongoing for a lone sniper, while the Utah Valley University campus remained on lockdown for hours following the incident. Tributes are now pouring in as the world reacts to the shocking event.

Riley Gaines Barker, a 25-year-old conservative political activist known for campaigning against the involvement of trans women in women's sports, took to Instagram to issue her condolences.

She wrote: "I'm so sick. Literal disbelief. We have a sickness in our society. The truth is so hated.

"Stop what you're doing and say a prayer to the Most High for Charlie Kirk and his family."

In the comments section, WNBA star Cunningham replied: "Prayers up."

The Indiana Fever guard has previously spoken about her own political views. She said that, as a white woman from Missouri, a lot of people assume that she holds conservative beliefs.

But the 29-year-old explained that she sits '.right in the middle'.

Her move to the Fever also saw her join forces with the WNBA's biggest star, Caitlin Clark, who was crucial as the team reached the play-offs last season. However, Clark will miss the remainder of the season due to injury, in a hugely damaging blow to the team.

How have sports stars reacted to Charlie Kirk's death?

Tributes and reactions have come in from across the sporting world, as athletes respond to the shocking incident.

Former NFL star Antonio Brown shared his concern following the latest act of political violence in the United States.

The controversial Brown has not shied away from publicly supporting Trump in the past.

On X he wrote: "The s**t that needs to stop in this country. When I stood up there with Trump... I knew people would try to take me down and bet out to get me... which happened.

"Sad world we live in."

Other athletes and public figures have since shared similar reactions to Kirk's death.
