Steph Curry invented outrageous 'solar eclipse' shot that only he could pull off to leave NBA fans stunned

The greatest shooter of all time has a breath-taking trick shot

Steph Curry's reputation as the greatest shooter in basketball history has been well earned.

The Golden State Warriors point guard has made more three-pointers than any player ever in the NBA. His highlight reel is stocked with outrageous half-court shots, look-away threes and rapid-fire long-range efforts that leave defences helpless.

Curry's other-worldly shooting ability has helped make him a four-time NBA champion and a two-time Most Valuable Player.

And the 36-year-old superstar – who some believe deserves to be considered among the greatest basketball players of all time – has also thrilled fans with his audacious trick shots during pre-game warm-ups over the years.

Spectators flock early to Golden State's Chase Center home arena in their droves hours before tip-off to catch a glimpse of Curry going through his pre-match rituals and to see what breath-taking display of his shooting skill he has planned on any given evening.

That can take the form of, for example, a shot from the players' tunnel or dozens of three-pointers swished in succession without a miss.

And earlier this year, Curry marked the advent of a solar eclipse plunging much of the United States into temporary darkness with a specially designed trick shot.

Prior to a Warriors game against the Dallas Mavericks back in August, Curry collected the ball at the top of the key, took one leaping step and hurled the ball high up towards the arena's ceiling.

Seconds later, the ball sunk perfectly through the hoop, without so much as grazing the rim.

The move stunned fans in attendance and Curry's Warriors colleagues were equally impressed.

In a video capturing the moment that was posted to the team's X account, Golden State centre Kevon Looney is seen throwing up his hands in disbelief.

Curry they runs off celebrating with an array of team-mates.

The Warriors have made a stellar start to the 2024-25 season, currently top of the Western Conference standings with a 9-2 record. And Curry is showing no signs of slowing down in his mid-30s, averaging 23.9 points and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 43.2 per cent from three-point range.
