Michael Jordan could win prestigious trophy that would crown him 'Grand Champion' of a new sport

The NBA legend is set to compete in another shock sport.

NBA legend Michael Jordan could secure a massive prize fund and another championship title after it was confirmed he would be competing in a new shock sport.

Despite winning an incredible six NBA titles, Jordan has decided that he is not yet finished with competitive sport.

In 2020, 'His Airness' formed NASCAR team 23XI Racing alongside American racing driver Denny Hamlin to chase a championship title in another sport.

And now, the 61-year-old is set to compete for a prestigious title in a third sport, with the prize money for the competition set at a massive $1 million (£812,108)

As per Costa Rican outlet CR Hoy, Jordan officially arrived in the country on Monday to compete in a highly prestigious and famous fishing tournament called 'PELAGIC Rockstar Offshore'.

The event, which began on Thursday at the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, boasts a prize pool of over a million dollars and is viewed as Central America's biggest sport fishing tournament.

While Thursday's action consisted of team registration, meeting the team captains and a party, Friday will see the real action begin as Jordan and dozens of other fishers compete for the prize money and the coveted title of Grand Champion.

Those taking part in the tournament will have the chance to reel in a variety of species of fish, with sailfish, marlin, tuna, and dorado all on the catch list.

"The PELAGIC Rockstar Offshore Tournament stands as the largest and most prestigious sport fishing tournament in Central America. Teams from all corners of the globe converge on Quepos, Costa Rica, to vie for the esteemed title and a significant cash award," the organisers stated.

Jordan will reportedly be using his incredible custom-built luxury superyacht built specifically for sports fishing in the tournament.

The 'Catch 23' superyacht, was built in 2018 and has a 216 square-foot cockpit for deep fishing and can host eight people with five cabins with private bathrooms, a living-dining room, kitchen, and command post.

With a design based on the NBA icon's Air Jordan 3 sneakers, the yacht has estimated value as of 2023 is $7 million, with a reported annual running cost of around $1 million.
