Conor McGregor has broken his silence after a woman who accused him of rape wins civil case against the UFC fighter
McGregor was found liable for the assault of a Nikita Hand in a Dublin hotel six years ago after a lengthy civil court case in the Republic of Ireland.
Hand accused UFC fighter of raping her at a hotel in 2018 after a Christmas night out and has been awarded €248,000 (£206,000) in damages.
And now, the Irishman has released an official statement reacting to the result of the court case.
Posting on social media platform X, McGregor confirmed his intention to challenge the verdict with an official appeal.
He wrote: "I will be appealing today's decision. The judge's instruction and the modest award given was for assault, not for aggravated or exemplary damages.
"I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future. Thank you to all my support worldwide."
The 36-year-old denied all of the allegations against him, telling the court that he had consensual sex with Ms Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel in the south of Dublin.
However, after a two week trial considering evidence and several days listening to closing remarks from both parties, a jury made up of eight women and four men found the MMA fighter liable for the assault of Hand.
The jury also ruled that McGregor's co-defendant James Lawrence did not assault Hand.
According to The Daily Mail, McGregor shook his head as the verdict was announced to the court on Friday evening.
He was joined by his fiancé Dee Devlin, sister Aoife McGregor, mother Margaret and father Tony in addition to other family members.
Shortly after the verdict was announced, McGregor was seen swiftly leaving the courtroom and getting in a car with his family while refusing to give any comment to media present.
Meanwhile Hand spoke with reporters outside the court following her victory, saying that the last two weeks had been a "nightmare".
She added: "I have no words. It is unbelievable. Thanks so much."
