Conor McGregor sent a message of support to Donald Trump moments after the former President of the United States was targeted in an assassination attempt.
On Saturday evening Donald Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The former President of the U.S, who is the presumptive Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election, was speaking on stage when shots rang out.
Trump was smothered on the ground by Secret Service agents, but a few moments later he stood up - raising his fist and appearing to shout "fight, fight" - with blood on his ear and face.
The 78-year-old said he was shot in the ear. He described a "whizzing sound" and feeling a “bullet ripping through skin."
The Secret Service located and killed the shooter, who was positioned on a nearby rooftop.
One rally attendee has died, while two others are in a "critical condition."
Trump's campaign team have confirmed that he has left hospital to return to his home in New Jersey.
Figures from across the political spectrum have condemned the attack, including plenty of celebrities and athletes.
UFC star Conor McGregor has long been a vocal supporter of Trump, and he took to X to share his best wishes.
"A 78 year old multiple billionaire he should be on a yacht on the med touring golf courses," McGregor wrote.
"But he is not. He is in Pennsylvania spitting out bullets! Running for the love of his country! God speed Donald! God bless the United States."
Other UFC fighters shared their support for the former president.
Moments after his win by submission against Darrius Flowers in Denver, Evan Elder said to the crowd: "Hey. I heard they just tried to whack my boy Trump. I'm glad that man's okay. Long live Trump."
Colby Covington posted on X: "President Trump is the toughest man on the face of this earth. God bless him and his family right now."
UFC president Dana White wrote on Instagram: "I am absolutely SICK to my stomach and in complete shock. I still don’t know how bad it is or if he’s ok."
White described Trump as "the toughest, most resilient, AMERICAN BAD ASS on this planet."
A statement from Trump's campaign read: "President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act.
"He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow."
The FBI have identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
