Max Verstappen is the favourite for this season’s Formula 1 world title

Formula 1 superstar Max Verstappen has revealed which Premier League team he supports.

The reigning F1 world champion is well on course to win his third title in a row after yet again dominant start to the season.

So far in 2023, a Red Bull driver has won all nine races, with Verstappen winning seven and teammate Sergio Perez winning two.

This weekend, the Dutchman is again the heavy favourite to reach the chequered flag first at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Ahead of the race, Verstappen has revealed that he is a Manchester United fan, despite being friends with Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.

He told talkSPORT: “Oh no! Yes, well I'm a United [supporter]. Well, it's not like I'm a die-hard United fan, I talk to Virgil as well and [other] Liverpool players.

“But for me, I enjoy when I see a great match when I see great football, and I think the Premier League is the best league out there - a lot of great players.”

Verstappen continued: “I think Man City is winning a little bit too much, but I guess I could say the same about us [Red Bull]! The other ones just need to get better.”

The Red Bull driver was then quizzed on the Netherlands’ chances at next summer’s European Championship.

He said: “It's a tough one, I think at the moment we are still not where we want to be, but with [Ronald] Koeman back in charge, I really hope that's it's going to go down well.

“I'm of course a big fan, but I am also realistic, and I think of course at the moment they are not the best national team out there.”

The 25-year-old added: “But at the other end, you don't need to be the best team out there if you're a good team and just play well together, you don't need one superstar.

“I think it's all about just getting your tactics right as well, so let's see, they just need to play a bit more together and have a bit more of a group - don't keep swapping players in and out.”
