Fernando Alonso’s future in F1 could become clear soon as the Spaniard is closing in on a new 2-year deal with Alpine, according to Journalist Joe Saward

Alonso’s performances since returning to the grid have been exceptional, defying the narrative that age would prevent him from competing at the highest level.

Saward also writes that the announcement could come just after the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Given the speed Alonso continues to show at 40 years old, there is little evidence to suggest there will be any decline in his ability over the next two seasons.

Combining this with his experience in developing cars and his ability to grow the Alpine brand, a continuation of their partnership seems logical.

The potential arrival of Oscar Piastri could have also given the team more leverage to negotiate a more favourable deal with Alonso.

Speaking of Piastri, his future remains one of Alpine’s biggest challenges, as the team must find the young Australian a seat in F1, or else they risk another team poaching him.
